When Kristin Yee felt inspired to paint the Savior, she worried about being able to capture Him in a way that reflected His Spirit. Despite these doubts, and lack of time, she moved forward in faith praying, researching, sketching, and painting until she felt like she had a finished piece. She applied a varnish to protect it, but unbeknownst to her, a part of the painting wasn’t fully dry. Horrified, she saw the details begin to dissolve. Feeling all was lost, she did what anyone would do in this situation, she called her mother. Her mother calmly encouraged her “You won’t get back what you had, but do the very best you can with what you’ve got.” Kristin prayed earnestly and worked through the night to repair the damaged painting. When morning came, the painting somehow looked better than it did before. She asked How was that possible? Kristin felt this experience was symbolic of the Saviors infinite ability to cleanse and redeem us as we repent and turn to Him. Sometimes what we see in our lives as irreparable or too far gone, is an opportunity for the Lord and the power of His merciful Atonement to repair, redeem, and make us better than we were before. This image is the painting in-progress early on as she began to work in faith, trusting the Lord would help her.

About the Artist:

KRISTIN YEE has been drawing pictures for as long as she can remember. After college, she worked for Disney Interactive Studio for over a decade and created artwork for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She currently manages the Animation team for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her art has become a key outlet for expressing and sharing her love for and belief in Jesus Christ.
